Playa del Carmen is full of food trucks, where you can quickly eat a taco and go on about your day. Very popular are the stands at the Parque Portal Maya on the corner between 15th Street and Benito Juarez. Here you will find any kind of Mexican street foods, sweet to savory, tacos, burritos, hamburgers, tacos de canasta, quesadillas to churros, marquesitas, fresh fruit and juices.

More street food stands can be found on 25th Street with Benito Juarez, again you can find all sorts of delicious and inexpensive Mexican antojitos as tacos, empanadas and gorditas of any flavor. No air-conditioning, no seating but, the experience is worth the try!

If you are looking for a Cochinita Taco, then we recommend the stand located on the corner of Calle 20 Nte and 30th Street, right next to the DAC. The cochinita there is so good that, everything is gone by early afternoon.

1.El Fogon

Definitely a favorite among Tourists and Locals, the service is fast, the menu has a vast variety of foods, prices are low, and the food is delicious.

They are known for their Tacos Al Pastor (Pork seasoned meat with pineapple), but also try the Gringa (Tacos with melted cheese) and a Fruit Water or Horchata.

It gets very busy at night, usually, you have to wait in line for a table but, it moves fast and is well worth the wait.

2.El Ñero

The real deal, this Taqueria serves authentic, delicious and ridiculously cheap tacos. Here is where Locals come to eat. They only serve tacos with a variety of fillings, sodas or fruit water and no alcohol. The service is excellent and rapido.

They also serve Tacos of cows tongue meat, cows intestine meat, cows brain meat, and cows head meat. It’s very different and it sounds funky but, it’s worth the try.

3.Lajam

(Calle 32 between 5th and 10th Street)

Truly a gem, here you will find both locals and tourists. They serve breakfast with eggs and chilaquiles among more options, lunch and dinner you can have Tacos, burritos and sandwiches. The meat is tender and flavorful. Prices are good and service is quick.

They don’t serve alcohol, unfortunately, but they are pet-friendly since they have tables outdoor on the sidewalk.

4.Don Sirloin

Don Sirloin is a franchising, you can find many spots in Playa del Carmen one of them it’s on Av. Constituyentes, close to El Fogon.

Here you will find a variety of foods as Tacos, Burritos, Quesadillas, Sandwiches, Hamburgers and lots of Drinks, alcohol and non-alcoholic. Obviously, their specialty is Sirloin Tacos. They offer both corn and flour tortillas. Prices are not high and the service is good.

5.Señor Taco

Very central, and easily accessible Señor Taco offers fresh, delicious Tacos. A must are the Tacos Al Pastor and Tacos Sirloin. The Salsa de Morita is phenomenal, and they have a great range of beers and non-alcoholic drinks.

The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is vibrant and festive – A Must try.
